Stone Age Africa indeed! Just to buttress this agonising but true statement, the London Expert who helped identify Ebola some 40 years ago said d UK Health Delivery System was well prepared to deal with the Ebola virus if it reached d UK. Professor Peter Piot , Director of the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine , said he was shocked at how the virus had swept across West Africa . He blamed leaders (leaders?)of the affected nations for failing to take the bull by the horns. He said he was not worried whatsoever about any outbreak in the UK. There are plans in place and every hospital would know what to do and how to handle that . According to the Professor, by the end of last week, there had been 1,440 cases confirmed in Guinea, Sierra Leone, Liberia and Nigeria, causing 826 deaths . He is worried about what s going on in West Africa. It boils down to Traditional beliefs, misplaced priorities and distrust in Health Services/Authority. He said in conclusion I think that it is not so much about the Virus and more about African society. Now lets examine this scenario . In 3 West African countries, victims of virus were dying in hundreds and buried crudely in mass graves, broadcast by international television media . Survival rate almost nil! Two Americans got caught in virus Web and everything changed! Specially designed, custom built Air Ambulance flew them to Gods own country, and with all precautions taken when they landed in d US, they were moved to a specialist health facility for emergency treatment. Thats a country where citizens lives and welfare have meaning . Where value systems are not corrupted and bastadized. Here in our dear country Nigeria not 2 citizens but 200+ school girls were criminally abducted , stollen in the middle of the night in a State under Federal Government Emergency. What has happened in over 3 months to these unfortunate young students ? Nothing! President Goodluck Jonathan and his cohorts are still dancing in the Streets, on Election campaign rallies . Some Federal and State Assembly members are locked in do or die flights over the spoils of our National cake. The doctors are on strike. Again!. No jobs for our teeming young graduates roaming the Streets all over d country looking. No money in our pockets, No foods on our tables. No decent shelter over our heads. And we are one of the richest and largest oil producing nations of the world. Mr. Ebola may ironically turn out a divine intervention. Who will Expose our heartless ,selfish and wasteful Rulers, whose stock in trade is Squandering of our collective Riches. About time Nigerians woke up to the evil machinations of the political class . To the ugly realisation that bags of Rice, gallons of cooking oil , rolls of printed ankara - is it N5000 or N10000 per person they dash out now ?-, and other criminal enticements used to mobilise strategically impoverished Nigerians to political campaign rallies, will not last long after you would have put them in Power, and beyond your reach. God will NOT come to intervene o . The Lord may in fact be sick, tired of and angry at our Stupidity and sole reliance on Him. And our abhorrence for self reliance/motivation. For Gods sake, THINK, NIGERIANS! THINK FOR A CHANGE!!
