Stop Press! INTERNATIONAL WINE CHALLENGE TROPHY AND DOUBLE GOLD FOR CAMEL VALLEY Camel Valley Vineyard in Cornwall has won a Trophy and an unprecedented 2 Gold medals, a Silver and 2 Bronze medals in the 2014 International Wine Challenge (IWC). The results were announced at the English Wine Producers annual trade and press tasting in London on the 7th of May 2014 by Oz Clarke and Charles Metcalfe. The Gold medals were for the 2012 Camel Valley Pinot Noir Rosé Brut, which also won the trophy, and the 2009 Chardonnay Brut. The Silver went to Camel Valley 2012 Cornwall brut and the evergreen Bacchus from 2013 picked up a bronze. Said wine maker Sam Lindo: ‘I’m absolutely delighted, particularly with a Gold for the 2012 vintage. We were sure all along that although the quantities were small, the 2012 vintage had huge potential. To win the sparkling rosé trophy again is magnificent.’ Added Bob Lindo: ‘Sam, assistant wine maker Sarah and their small team deserve huge credit for what is a milestone achievement for Camel Valley. 2012 was a very difficult year, with late spring frosts reducing yields, but we persevered and what a fantastic result.’ The Lindos have now won 6 IWC Gold medals and 5 IWC trophies, including the International Trophy for the Best Sparkling Rosé in the World, a feat replicated in Bollecine Del Mundo world sparkling wine championships in Italy. Sam Lindo has won UK Winemaker of the Year 3 times.
