Stop Press – Notice of intention to withdraw operations to Cape Town from April 2015 Virgin Atlantic has today announced its intention to withdraw operations between Cape Town and London after the summer. These are highly competitive times for the airline industry and as a part of Virgin Atlantic’s strategy to operate more efficiently; Virgin Atlantic need to deploy aircraft to routes with the right level of demand to be financially viable. Virgin Atlantic remain committed to South Africa and continue to operate a non-stop service from Johannesburg to London, as well as offering a service between Cape Town and Johannesburg with their codeshare partner South African Airways. It is Virgin Atlantic’s intention that the last flight departing Cape Town to London will be on 27 April 2015 and the last flight departing London to Cape Town will be on 26 April 2015. Up to that date, Virgin Atlantic will continue to operate its published schedule and customers can be confident booking flights for travel prior to then.
