Story behind the photo : 155 A. “I shall provide you food two times a day”. This is the photo of the Temple Arunachaleswarar, in Tiruvannamalai in Tamil Nadu. This temple town reminisce me of those 15 day of my life when I spent there in the open space as a wandering Sadhu. Bhagavan Sri Sathya Sai Baba, out of His Divine mercy, was guiding me in my Dhyana marg. Once Bhagavan told me, that when one gives up everything in life and engage himself in spiritual pursuit, he is called a “Sadhu”. And the Sadhus are allowed to beg for food for sustenance. You are now almost there, depending on your children for food. They are the first ones to provide food for a Sadhu in their own family. You can stay with them and enjoy their hospitality, till they look after you with Love and affection. When at any time you feel that their love is diminishing, you can go out to the open world. “I am now giving you an assurance, that, wherever you are, I shall provide you food, two times a day”. I was overwhelmed with this Divine utterance. Those were the days when I was living in Chennai. One day, I had taken my lunch and was relaxing. My wife was watching television and the grandchildren were shrieking and playing. My mind was urging me that I should seek silence away from the home. With a single towel in my hand, I just walked out of home. I did not know where I was going. I did not want that the family could locate me. From the central bus depot I caught a bus to Tiruvannamalai, where Arunachaleswarar Mandir and Ramana Ashram are located. I had not much money left with me after buying bus tickets. Early evening hours I visited the temple and also Raman ashramam. I carefully counted the cash in my pocket. Just about Rs.20.00. I took light refreshment from a foot path eating house. I walked around and reached a small temple and adjoining this temple, a small Temple tank. I sat on the rocky steps, and slept off, for the night. Next morning, I washed the only dhothi and shirt which I had and spread them for drying. With the wet towel around my waist, I sat for meditation. The sun was rising it was getting warmer and warmer. And the breakfast from that same foot path. I made much calculation on the balance cash available. The rocky steps were my home for the next 4 days. In the meanwhile the cash had exhausted. One day morning after meditation, I found that I had no money. I am a diabetic patient, the extreme hunger was making me feel weak and I felt giddy; and nothing to eat. Sitting on the rocky steps, I was thinking very hard. Is this the time for me to start begging for food? But how can a man who was so far running an Industry in Chennai , walk in the street begging for food? The mind could not accept such a situation. Meet me again in the next post and see what happens… Love and Regards, Mumbai Srinivasan.
