Story published in the middle column of the Daily post today 24.11.14 Finding fanny Reviewers described film Finding Fanny very hilarious and awarded it 3.5 stars out of 5. Last month, I and my wife decided to watch this movie at PVR cinema at Ludhiana. We left home about half an hour before the movie time, parked our car, purchased the tickets and took our seats in a nice audi. In the interval when I could see people moving in the lounge, carrying trays with pepsi and pop corns, I was trying to compare that how much has changed in the last two three decades. Now the aroma of hot dogs or bread pakoras and the ping sound produced by striking of the bottle opener with glass bottles of Fanta and Campa in the theatres’ lounge is missing. During our college time, our mode of conveyance to the theatre was bicycles which were stacked in the premises of theatre in such a way that nobody could get his cycle before the end of the show. It was due to this reason cycles were parked only after purchasing the tickets. On that day I could not see any single bicycle in the parking area. The great rush in front of the small ticket window and the availability of the precious tickets from a stone faced, angry looking person behind the pillar at a premium is not seen now. Now we have computerized advance booked tickets, nice AC auditoriums with 24 hrs electricity backup and comfortable seats. The frequent displays in the talkies that money will not be refunded in case of electricity breakdown, are no longer there. In the mid-eighties, our family friends, Mr and Mrs Garg went to see a movie. By the time they entered the hall, the film had already started. Garg sahib was searching for their seats in the dark and also holding the hand of his wife. As she didn’t want to miss the start of a suspense movie, her eyes were continuously glued on the screen .In the rush, somehow, the hand of Mrs Garg slipped from her husband’s hand and by mistake, she caught hold of hand of the person standing next to her husband and kept moving with that person. The other person didn’t mind holding the hand a lady. In between she had a glimpse of that person who appeared quite fair as compared to Mr Garg, but she didn’t bother thinking it was because of the strong screen lights. After some time when she realized her mistake, she was in very embarrassing situation. Thank God now a days we have foot lights in the audi for the latecomers (to avoid this type of mistakes). Dimple Kapadia one of the main actresses of the film Finding Fanny was heart throb of the masses when her super hit film Bobby was released. My cousins went from Delhi to Rohtak on bikes to watch this movie as tickets were easily available there. Now even Dimple Kapadia, has been replaced by the gorgeous Deepika Padukone in this film. After the movie, although I am not convinced with the reviewers ranking but I am thankful to him as it took me back in time in search for my lost Fanny.
