Story time because its 3:30 and Im still not done with my homework: A couple weeks ago I was talking to my writing professor in class about my essay title, because I wanted to incorporate this image I used as a cigarette as a metaphor for self-sacrifice, hollowing yourself out, etc etc etc (youd have to read the essay to understand what Im talking about here). My classmate overhears this discussion and the following conversation takes place: Her: Wait, what texts are you using? Me: Annie Dillards Tranfiguration and Fran Lebowitz Writing: A Life Sentence Her: Oh, because like in The Fault in Our Stars, this book by John Green, the main character Augustus uses a cigarette as a metaphor. Like, he puts the cigarette in his mouth but he never lights it, so he never gives it the power to kill him. So like, you kind of reminded me of that. I have never felt so offended in my life.
