Straight Up! Kind of a crazy day & to much to tell, but one thing really stuck out to me today. A couple of weeks ago there was a new girl that came to our school & with in the first couple of days she ended up in my ISS Room. As I would talk & tell stories about my past & how Jesus Christ is the one who got my through my tough times in life, she started listening & taking interest. I dont hold anything back & tell the stories Straight Up! She opened up quite a bit about her life & what she was going through & it is a Whole Bunch of Ugly. She told me that her dad hates her & has nothing to do with her, especially since he got his new young girlfriend pregnant. Her mom found out recently that she has 4th stage breast cancer & it has spread throughout her body. They give her months to live or less. She then told me that her relationship with her mom is really bad. They have had physical fights often & the words that she is called by her mom cant be said in the classroom. I got a note from her today & she was telling me that her mom & her just got into another big fight & she just needed to vent to someone & since she has no one else, she wrote me. This time she told the story with the words she was called & everything. I cant in my worst nightmares imagine any mom on the planet talking to their child like this. Im totally blown away I cant even begin to tell you how bad the words were except for to tell you that no woman wants to be called these words. She shared that as her mom gets to feeling worse that the hurtful words are more frequent & the fights are more often. After she writes & tells me of her true hellish lifestyle she says,Thank you Mr. Larsen for taking the time to read this & that you care. I really have no one else to turn too. I couldnt even respond to her after I read the letter & to be totally honest with you the letter was far worse than the information I gave you. After about an hour of complete silence in the room she says,Mr. Larsen, where did you say that you went to church? I told her,Experience Life Church. She then said,When you were telling me about your church 2 weeks ago I was very interested in what you said about it. She paused & none of the other students were talking. They were just listening. She then broke the silence again by asking,Mr. Larsen would you ever pick up a student & take them to church? I replied,Yes. I did it all of last year. She then asked,Would you pick me up & take me to church? I said,Yes, but we have to get permission from your mom & my wife would be with me. She said,Ok, Im going to talk to my mom tonight. I then explained that I would also need to talk to her mom & she said that would be ok. The room was silent again & then she says,Mr. Larsen, Thank you for listening. I cant tell you how my eyes welled up writing this & thinking about this whole situation. What a lot of these kids are going through is heart wrenching. I would encourage you to pray for the teachers, the students & all their families. You never know when that hellish lifestyle is going on right next door. I love you guys, Brian Larsen!
