Strutting my torso on the beach “You could have spent that - TopicsExpress

Strutting my torso on the beach “You could have spent that money on buying me some flowers on Valentines Day” was Mrs E final words to a… erm… ‘heated discussion’ we had yesterday. Let me explaineth… As summer is fast approaching (and because I take my two boys swimming every Sunday morning) ya boy Evans decided to splash (excuse the pun) out on a new and decent pair of swim shorts. Now, I’m not talking something from Primark, or Tesco, or JD Sports for that matter… Oh no… These bad boys are a thing of beauty. They are from a company called Orlebar Brown – you might need to go Google for more info … then come right back. Did you see them – nice aren’t they? I bought a pair from their Bulldog range in black. Now, what’s special about these is that they are a tailed fit, and have a unique side fastening adjuster to give a really neat and tailed fit without the messy drawstring look that most swim shorts have. They are made from a special super-quick drying material and can be worn as regular shorts too. And we are NOT talking those long board shorts that most blokes wear – A la Simon Cowell. These sit just above the knee. And I can ‘vouch’ that they do indeed fit superbly and accentuates my shapely thighs from my years of using the cross trainer. But all this comes at a price. £135.00 to be precise + £6.00 delivery Yeap, just shy of £150.00! And on Sunday Mrs E discovered the true cost of these swim shorts (serves here right for looking online) And after let-flying with words such as: “Stupid” “Waste of money” “What’s wrong with the ones you already have” “I only spend £30.00 on my costume” “Can’t believe someone would spend that amount on swim shorts” Her final missive was: “You can find £135.00 for some swim shorts, but you couldn’t find money to buy me a valentines present” She just won’t let it lie. For goodness sake, I bought her a card… what more did she want? Or yes, flowers, coz she told me yesterday (a good two weeks after Valentines day) “You could have spent that money on buying me some flowers” And then she walked off in a ‘huff’. Blimey. All this over a pair of swim shorts! And you know what….? I’ll be buying another pair later in the year – as a man always needs two pair of swim shorts don’t they? And this is a prime example of me NOT being a price-buyer. You see, these swim shorts are unique to this company, no other manufacture produces tailed-fit swim shorts with the side fastener/adjuster. And I wanted a pair. And it meant price WAS irrelevant. In fact I hardly noticed the price, I was more concerned in deciding which colour of navy blue or black to go for. Here’s something else … Orlebar Brown every year nearly always sell out of their stock. And I’m sure all fellow Orlebar Brown wearers were NOT price buyers. It’s a very powerful position to be in as a business. A position where the customer wants your product without even thinking about the price.
