Study # 121. "Finding the needed time to rest". In our hectic world it becomes difficult to find the time for needed rest. We weary ourselves with things that need to be done (or we think need to be done) almost everyday. Yesterday, for example, I was so busy with outside work on my home and yard work (that needs to be done before bad weather sets in) that I almost waited too long to take time out to use the bathroom! Ha! Ha!- you say, but you know that this has happened to you! This uncomfortable circumstance was due to my own "self-made" tight schedule. Jesus had a "self-made" tight schedule too. He was BUSY healing, preaching, teaching, and comforting folks, yet he took personal time out on a number of occasions to get away from the many needs to pray, rest, and reflect. The diseased, sickly, blind, etc. would still be there after he returned to the field of his labor. Jesus knew he could help no one if he allowed himself to collapse under the strain of a constantly-filled schedule. Rest is essential to an effective Christian purpose as well as to our secular lives. If you are a work-aholic like me, try "working" at the need for rest. It will do wonders for you. Eccl. 3:1- "To everything there is a season and a TIME to every purpose under the heaven." Finding the time to rest is one of those essential purposes. - Buck.
