Subject: Laumbachs in New Mexico, and Those Who Went Before, in Germany, Iowa and New Mexico Laumbachs in New Mexico, and those who went before in Germany, Iowa and New Mexico For me, this book has been a work in process for many years. Christine Ortiz pushed me to make a date commitment. Book still has a long way to go before its published, and there are many variables over which I have no control, but she said I must because shes booking the place for me and theyre now booking for October! I will push to meet this date. Ive asked for 2 p.m. on October 25 or 26 (Sat or Sun) at the Fairwinds, Ikes retirement place in Rio Rancho. (His 101 birthday is this week!) I hope kids of Alfredo and Pete--who are in their 90s, can take them. Wish Red could join us...but I bet he does, in spirit, as well as all of their siblings and cousins who went before. Rio Rancho, large and near ABQ, has ample accommodations, restaurants, etc. for visitors and is near an airport. Roy (where Alfredo and the senior Pete live) has none of those, just nice folks. Fairwinds said they will provide refreshments: coffee, punch, cookies or pastries, etc. Christines young grandson Brandon will play soft background guitar music. Please pass the word. Christine said its a big open space, probably not limited capacity. The more the merrier. Book is not just names and numbers. A huge undertaking, it covers several hundred years in Germany, Iowa and NM, including regional history. It covers Laumbachs, Henkens, descendants of Apolonia and Bernardo Martin, and Bibiana, James Bonney and his descendants (book has multiple Bonney chapters) et al, with lots of images of vintage photos, documents, maps, etc. Major additional contributors are: Butch Sanders (a very capable history researcher and genealogist, I couldnt have done this without his constant input, the entire genealogy section is his); Karl Laumbach (provided ongoing input, photos and 2 chapters); Pete Laumbach, son of Rudolph (provided an important chapter, his research pushes our knowledge of German Lauenbachs further back); Dallas Laumbach (provided a chapter on our missing Henry Laumbach, brother of ADL 2nd); Trent Shue (great-grandson of Fritz Eggert, provided info about Fritz and informative regional NM history); and Verna Laumbach Sparks (my mother, RIP, her writings and family history are multiple chapters). Jose Antonio Esquibel offered a chapter and documentation on Bernardo Martin, and hes begun final editing of chapters. The books appendix section has bios and photos of those 7 major contributors, plus mine. The book has multiple sections; besides chapters, genealogy and appendix (with bios), it has an extensive time line that spans hundreds of years. I will keep you posted on books final progress.
