Submitted for your approval. Two apparently completely separate images, having only in common one place in time. The Texarkana zone... Took the shot of the old jail section of Arkansas Municipal Building last Saturday. Those rusty old bars have seen the guilty, the innocent. and the drunk and disorderly. That building is a Texarkana treasure and I wish those working towards restoration of the auditorium the best! The other...a single catacomb in the underground complex beneath the Perot. Randol Conry, executive director of TRAHC was kind enough to provide me access for a second time on Friday. There will be a third...next time Ill not forget the tripod like an idiot. However, I braced myself and managed to get a few usable shots that could be made a bit more acceptable via the trusty Photoshop. That, my friends, is one of Texarkanas most valuable and unique treasures. Restored, it would be one of the few theater organs restored to its original home and join such national treasures as the Fox in Atlanta, the Orpheum in Memphis, and, even better, be something Little Rock or Shreveport DONT HAVE. :-) Randol was also kind enough to take time to dig up the original 2000 report from an expert in such things who put together a 17 page report detailing how the instrument should be restored to its former glory...and then some. Want to see Prairie Home Companion come to the Perot??? Garrison seems to favor fine old movie palaces with restored organs, as do Pipe Dreams, From the Top, and other NPR shows. Last week I heard a Prairie Home Companion from the Orpheum in Memphis and the organ literally brought the house down when he played I Cant Help Falling in Love With You and the entire audience joined in. The organ had NO problem being heard as these things are made to be LOUD when they need to. I have a number of pictures down in the catacombs as the organ is stacked in several of them. It remains in very good condition thanks to the cool, dry environment but that is not were it belongs. Ill be posting those images and a complete report, along with the report from the organ expert, on Foxtrot soon.
