Suicide at PA hospital requires HazMat response privateofficer by poi4925 Pittsburgh PA Nov 11 2013 A Dormont man apparently killed himself overnight inside a car in the parking lot of the Kane Scott Regional Care Center in Scott by creating a deadly chemical mixture that spewed fumes so noxious they required a response by a hazardous materials team. Ryan Cummins, 20, of Dormont was pronounced dead at 3:33 a.m. after a security guard at the hospital noticed the vehicle with a handwritten note on the windshield that told people to stay away from the car. A skull and crossbones was on the note, according to the Allegheny County Medical Examiners Office. If a policeman or fireman would open the door, it could potentially be fatal to them, Dormont police Sgt. James Burke said this morning. Mr. Cummins, whose family had reported him missing to Dormont police Friday around 5:17 p.m., is believed to have driven his car to the hospital lot at 300 Kane Blvd. just before 1 a.m., closed the windows, mixed a common household product with a chemical in a bucket, and succumbed to the fumes, the medical examiners office said. Although Mr. Cummins death is being treated as a suicide, the Allegheny County Police homicide squad is investigating.
