Sumatran tigers prey on goats owned by residents: A goat belonging to villagers in Sigatal, sub Na IX-X, Labura District, North Sumatra, was devoured by a Sumatran Tiger. According to the owner of the goat, (Manan age 50 years) in the past year he has lost as many as 9 goats. On the day of Thursday, July 31, 2014 at about 4pm, he saw some of his goats grazing. They left home to roost not far from their home. The tiger came to where goats graze, leaving visible footprints (or pugmarks) on the ground. The Sumatran Tiger drug the goat into the bushes. A one-month-old young goat witnessed the loss of its mother. Because of signal constraints, the villager could not immediately report the incident to a BSTR. Early Saturday, August 2, 2014, a volunteer ranger from BSTR received a report and three volunteers immediately rushed to the location. To obtain evidence, the team only found footprints near where the Sumatran tiger drug the goat into the bushes. We have no clear footprints by a falling heavy rain in the evening. Fearing the presence of snares attached around the scene, three BSTR volunteer rangers combed the woods around settlements for two days, and set up camera traps. Harimau Sumatra memangsa kambing milik warga.
