Summer Camino pilgrims must be getting ready! YEEEHHAAAWWW Just thought I would share a little advice out to those who will be taking on this wonderful journey soon. One of the biggest thing that people worry about are what shoes should I wear? Here is what I did. I wore trail runners ( Salomons ) and didnt hate putting on those shoes everyday. I did get blisters, but nothing so terrible that I couldnt patch up and head on my way. I had an Italian guy show me a way to drain the blisters though with a needle and thread. My mom wore hiking boots. She got them a size too big, because the likelihood of your feet swelling is high. She didnt have any issues at all. The boots were heavy, but she handled that better than if she would have had blisters. One thing with trail runners is the support in them ware down faster. Towards the end I had pains in my hips and lower back. So keep that in mind when looking. Lots of people I met on the trail also were dealing with stress fractures in their shins or feet. On shorter days, I wore my Chacos, and the support from those for a day was amazing! But what also helped me stay healthy was taking a day to rest/ice my sore muscles and feet. The Camino isnt a race. Its your journey. Take care of your mind and body that is getting you through the journey. Buen Camino!!
