Summer Film Camp, presented by Film Exchange’s Young Filmmakers - TopicsExpress

Summer Film Camp, presented by Film Exchange’s Young Filmmakers Institute, returns in June for its 4th annual program of screenwriting, filmmaking and claymation workshops for aspiring filmmakers ages 8–18. These hands-on workshops, led by inspired industry pros, teach campers how to find and tell their own stories, as well as the basic steps in making films. This immersion in a creative world is not only skill-building and idea-triggering, it’s also really, really fun. In addition to workshop sessions, campers participate in panel discussions with resident instructors. Past instructors include Darko Lungalov (Serbian director and winner Best Narrative Feature at 2009 Tribeca Film Festival), Jane Wiedlin (legendary Rocker from the band The Go-Go’s), Anthony Ferreri (associate producer, Water & Power, cinematographer, Camp Casserole) and Joey Shanks, (PBS Digital Studios special effects guru). Topics are based on the expertise and experiences of these creative heroes, who not only inspire campers but talk to them about the bigger world of film. The campers’ finished films will premiere at the Young Filmmakers Showcase at next years VTXIFF (Location and times TBA). Students will also receive a DVD copy of their projects so they can always have the fruit of this summer’s experience. Past alumni of the camp have gone on to star in and work behind the scenes in local film productions like Roundball and a documentary about Theatre Victoria’s Triple Threat Theatre Camp. This year’s documentary project will be about The Vine School and their customized learning environment and specialized teaching methods to serve children ages two through twelve affected by Autism Spectrum Disorders and related Communication Disorders. All workshops and panels for grades 2nd thru 8th are held at Trinity Episcopal School, and can accommodate 30 kids per 2 week session.
