Summer Reading: Read an interesting book "The As If Principle" by Richard Wiseman. This book is based on the Willam James theory that it is not our feelings that guide our actions (feel happy, you will laugh) but reverse is possible too (laugh you will feel happy). Few uses of this principle in life are: 1. Generally your heart rate increases and breathing becomes faster when you are in love. To enhance relationship it is better for couples to engage in exciting activities such as skiing, hiking, dancing or going to concerts rather than pleasant activities (which decrease heart rate) such as going to movies (unless u are watching horror movie), eating out or visiting friends. 2. Laughing clubs sprang out in different parts of world based on this idea that by laughing out loud your mood is enhanced. They were first started in 1995 by a Mumbai physician named Madan Kataria. Best mood enhancers are singing, dance and happy talk. 3. For increase in confidence put a spring in your step (long steps), hold your head up high . While sitting keeping your hands on back of your head and hold your chest up, your computer screen center should be above your eye level up. 4. The AS-IF principle actually can alter mass behavior too. As kids we start singing our National anthem with no particular patriotic feelings but after we grow up patriotic feeling come up as soon as you hear national anthems/salutes (remember Hail Hitler salute). In essence if you want a quality, behave as if you already have it (physiologically) your mind (psychology) follows is the argument of this book. Good reading if you like psychological research and theories.
