Sunday 3/16/14 @5:45 pm - by the grace of God, we are still alive. Yesterday, Anna and I decided that she would not be riding along with me to get Taylor in Rayne, Louisiana. Taylor had been visiting her mom for Spring break and it was time for Taylor to get picked up to come home. The story starts here... Anna and I attended sunday school and church yesterday morning. We were finishing our four week sunday school study with Pastor Francis on: The Great Deceiver lhmmen/studies.asp?page=all ...Then, Pastor Seth gave his sermon on the scripture lesson John 3:1-17 or (John 3:16 if you will.). After church, Anna and I reflected about how fitting these lessons were, especially for geared towards me at this point. We took our naps and then I was on my way to get Taylor. This was the first time Anna would not be joining me on this trip since we got married. Anna is 8 months pregnant and/or 5 weeks away from the due date of our first child, a little girl. It is too uncomfortable for Anna to take these long driving trips anymore. We normally meet Taylors mom at 4:30 pm but traffic was bad on Ih-10 and we did not meet until about 5:20 or so. Taylor and I departed Rayne at about 5:30 and headed home to Bride City. When I asked how her week was, Taylor shared disturbing news. Taylor began to inform me of a man who was arrested last Thursday for child abuse of a two year old in Baton Rouge. It was quite troubling to hear my daughter know the details. She knew of people who were involved and even went so far as to knowing the bond amount. I couldnt believe it, she even knew the guys name. She said his name out loud a bad feeling crept over me. A dark, evil, creepy feeling. I told her how I hated that she was exposed to that. Taylor explained to me that she is safe when she is over there and that there was nothing for me to worry about. I relaxed but this led to a conversation about church, Christ and John 3:16. We discussed versus 1-17 and Nicodemus, of whom she called Nicoderm.Lol. Then I tried to explain what Jesus meant when He said born again and being bathed in water and the spirit. I began reciting to her John 3:16 but as soon as I finished ...shall not perish... The truck in front of us slammed on his brakes. The truck, with its trailer, swerved left into the grassy median at 70 miles per hour to miss the vehicles in front of him and so did we. However, my right front bumper clipped the back left corner of the trailer. The front tires blew out and the trailer catapulted our suburban onto its left side. We were at a 90 degree angle, parallel to the ground, gliding on our side across the muddy median at about 50 mph. Taylor screamed Daaaaaddddddyyyyyy!!!... the airbags deployed all around us... except for on the steering wheel! I could still see out the windshield. I braced for impact as I felt us getting ready to roll over onto the hood. Then I could see nothing but the green grass through the windshield. As we hit the opposite side of the ditch, the slope jolted the big vehicle. It pushed us back onto all fours and this kept us right side up. I could the see eastbound cars coming right at us. Both front tires were blown out and we were gliding on metal rims, instead of rubber tires. A good thing because when we hit the other side of the median it allowed the rims to dig into the wet, soggy ground. At this point, still moving at an incredible speed, we were headed into the East bound lane of oncoming traffic. Cars were zooming past the windshield and I turned the wheel as hard and as quickly as I could. The front left rim hit the edge of the asphalt and we began rolling back towards the ditch in the middle of the median. Fortunately, we were both wearing seat belts and no one was injured. This was truly an act of God. He is active and saving lives. I believe this to be evidence that good and evil forces are very present in our world today. I am more certain than I ever have been, that God came to earth in the form of man. That His name is Jesus. He was and is the son of God and sits at the right hand of God Almighty. The Holy Spirit is ever-present in our world. If you have doubts, I pray that this story, along with others will put those doubts to rest. I pray that you find the answers you are looking for in the comforting arms of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. There is more to this story but I am stopping here.
