Sunday December 7, 2014 You guys keep us humble. No doubt about that. You write a post that you’re pretty sure no one would find interesting, and here come lots of readers! You write one that you think ought to touch and bless, and a few take a look. What really matters is ‘heart stuff.’ You write what’s going on in there, and it’ll find a home somewhere with someone. Heres a bit more of that, heartstuff. Thank you all again for the wonderful new world we’ve opened toward each other by this means. We’ll keep ‘em coming as long as we can, and when we can’t, we’ll be glad for all the times we could and did. Bless you! I typed that hard—do you feel it? Blessed that is! Hope so. Today I preach at 11. We’re back to our regular format for services today except that during Advent we have whole families do the ‘Lay ministering.’ And do they do it well. Sometimes the congregation could go home after the opening part by the layministers, but we’re glad most of the folks stay! Those of you who do Scripture regularly can take a look at John 1:3-5, then 10-12. That’s the foundation for our ‘Man In The Street’ message for today. A couple of my books are written in ‘proserty’ something between poetry and story. It seems to me that the power of communication is in the ‘story,’ so you try to tell it in different ways. When it’s my time to preach I write a ‘prosetry’, which either introduces or sums up the sermon. Here’ what I wrote for this week: Man On The Street: A long time ago, and another world away, when we were ushered into the hallways of the girl’s dormitory, they would call out, “Man in the hall.” Whether that was warning or affirmation, we didn’t know, but that’s the way it was. It’s really strange. Here comes this man on the street, dressed to kill, and it’s not the best part of town where he walks down the street saying and doing strange things. Good strange, not bad strange. And the people he chooses to talk with are certainly not the ones who might think deserve his time and effort. He seems to slight none, but at the same time reaches toward those so often slighted. He has probably come this way before, perhaps even been on this very street where we have seen him, but it’s only now that we take special notice. When he comes, what he does, why he does it, is really amazing,--- and even more than amazing./ I think he’s coming our way just now; yes, it seems like that. Toward you and toward me. Who is he and what has he to do with us? Man on the street. Can’t tell you right here and now just who he is and what he does, but I’ll bet some of you know. I’ll give you a little ‘more’ of this story tomorrow if you’d like. Because the more is much. Finding a way to say what we’ve heard to the point that, as William Booth, founder of the Salvation Army, observed makes us ‘Gospel proof,’ is a challenge, but it’s also exciting to try. Why? Because if people knew the good news inside themselves, not just from history, hearsay, or it’s being ‘out there,’ then we’ve have daily rather than once-a-year Christmas. Much and many comes/come to us. Some comings are far more important and longer lasting than others. We’re in the ‘coming season’ of Advent. So many of us want to say firmly maybe even loudly, “Come quickly!” Always love, always, Keith
