Sunday, March 16 2014 11:00AM Analytical Meditation Dear Noble Sangha and friends, On the 3rd Sunday of the next four months at 11AM we will conduct an analytical meditation series based on the progressive stages of emptiness. We will contemplate emptiness from the perspective of the four tenet systems of Tibetan Buddhism. Emptiness is a important but often difficult concept. It often brings fear and consternation and is widely misunderstood. Emptiness is not the foe or destroyer of appearances, it is in fact the basis for relative truth. How ever we want to express it, appearance/emptiness, clarity/emptiness or relative and ultimate truth, these distinctions are one and the same, inseparable in nature. The myriad appearances of this world and our minds arise from equally myriad causes and conditions, all of which are in flux moment to moment. Every moment is new and fresh, it is only we who impose continuity, concept and judgements that often result in negative emotions. Because things are empty of inherent existence they can be free to change, the potential for manifestation is unleashed. Analytical meditation is in some way the union of study and practice. It is the tool that merges the view of study with the skillful means of practice. We can deepen our experience and sharpen our prajna with it. The Views of the Vaibhashika/Sautrantrika school, the Cittamatra school, the Madhyamaka school and the Uttaratantra school will be examined. These examinations will take place in the context of meditation with an eye towards making our understanding more direct and profound. All are invited to come to any or all of the sessions. Each will be a stand alone practice, but doing the series is encouraged. Each session will have time for discussion at the end. Hope to see you there! boulder.nalandabodhi.org/events/analytical-meditation-2014-03-16/
