Sunday, September 22, 2013, 25th Sunday Ordinary Time Amos 8:4-7, 1 Timothy 2:1-8, Psalm 113:1-2, 4-8, Luke 16:1-13 NETWORKING FOR THE KINGDOM For the children of this world are more prudent in dealing with their own generation than are the children of light. -Luke 16:8 Friends, when Jesus made the above statement in today’s gospel, he was not praising the dishonesty of the steward, but he is pointing to us those basic qualities to adopt. Christians are a called to become Creative, enterprising and take initiative in politics, economics, communications, education, etc Consider how our politicians, like business people in Amos 8:4 are investing great energy and resources in strategizing and mobilizating towards their success at the pools come 2015. They are taking advantage of every available situation and employing all means in their feat to secure a political future. Don’t forget their maxim: “Permanent interest, no permanent enemy!” What is the challenge for us? The children of light—baptized Christians who fall short of enjoying spiritual growth— are called to become SMART managers of temporal facilities for the good of our spiritual life and eternal future. Our BUSINESS as followers of Christ is to understand the needs and dangers of our times, to employ every opportunity to MARKET the Good News, to CONNECT with as many as we can, especially through the various media. Rather than wait for a last minute display of smartness to fix our eternal concerns, now is the time to display our ingenuity in God’s affairs. It begins by asking the pragmatic questions (“What must I do?”, “When must I do it?” “How is it to be done?”) that elicit prompt action. PRAYER: Father, help me to be creative and take positive advantages of people and situations in my life to promote your kingdom. Amen.
