Sunday Service on July7 @ 10 AM. Joshua 23. “The Danger of Apostasy”. Joshua, in his old age, gathers the leadership of Israel to encourage them with God’s faithfulness and to warn them of disobedience and its consequences of apostasy. This is his “swan song”. Love and follow God, keep His word, and remain set apart. We tend to focus on the aspects of obedience that we like and skip over the parts that are less attractive to us. “Keep yourselves in the love of God” (Jude 21) and remain “unspotted from the world” (James 1:27). We become comfortable in not studying God’s word because it always speaks to us about being transformed into the image of Jesus which goes against our flesh and tendency to be conformed to the world. The test of our love for Him ultimately lies in our obedience (John 14:15, 21). Are you bold in your witness, zealous for His word, and passionate for fellowship with Him? These are indications that you are abiding in Him. Like Joshua, Paul’s farewell to the Ephesian elders (Acts 20:28-32) and his swan song (2 Timothy 4:1-8), Peter’s swan song (2 Peter 1:12-21) and Jesus’ parting prayer (John 17) encourage us in the love of God and warn us to keep His word.
