Sunday our Pastor challenged us to be a blessing to someone that couldnt pay you back. Yesterday I was given the opportunity to do just that. I got a call from a Pastors wife who said she could use some help. She is trying to help a man who lives alone with Huntingtons disease. He has no water as the plumbing is bad. I said I would come take a look. So I drove 1 1/2 hours to his house and got busy being a blessing. I didnt think about it, I didnt do it because I remembered my Pastors sermon (I didn’t even think of it until I started writing this), I just heard help. WHAT A MESS! This man is so discouraged that for the last several years he has just gave up. But this Pastors wife didnt say why dont somebody help that poor man (he doesnt even go to their Church), she said Lord I want to help that poor man, what can I do? She went out of her way to befriend this man and has been trying to get his house livable again. She arranged for Habitat For Humanities to put a roof on his house, and she and one other lady from yet another Church has took some time to try to clean a little of the inside of the house. Oh, you cannot even begin to imagine the stench! With no water, things get very dirty. I started in the bathroom and had to dig my way through to get to the stool. I took inventory of what I would need to get the water back on, then went to the hardware store to get the parts. Called the city to have them come shut the water off, but the pin to shut the valve off was broken. I went down into the crawl-space only to find about five inches of water, but the valve before the water meter did shut off so I could get the valve replaced upstairs. Then I got the shower working, and then the sink and about four hours cleaning in the bath. I said all that just to say this: There is still a LOT of work needed done for this brother in the Lord. That is why I am writing this note. He has no money as he is unable to work because of the Huntington’s and they refused disability for him. I spent a day in the mission field yesterday and I saw life coming back into someone the devil had convinced it was over, no hope! When I left, we prayed together and he gave me a hug that meant something! I’m going back for some more of that. If you would want to help a fallen brother get back up and fight again, there is plenty of ways you can bless him. I would like to see a crew of cleaners just go through and straighten the house. Carpet. If you think a furniture store might donate, please ask. Sump pump. Faucets, valves, drain pipes, etc. plumbing parts. Paint for the walls. Dry wall patching. More as we discover them I’m sure. One of my Verses this morning was Matthew 11:12. It’s time to take back what the enemy has stolen. Yes, there are a lot of people out there who can use some help. But we never will unless somebody asks God as this Pastor’s wife, “Lord what can I do to help?” Is there any doers out there who would like to help? Give me a call 641-891-1710.
