Super interesting article (published August 13, 2007) concerning Army recruitment and waivers for recruits with physical/mental health backgrounds. This article discusses recruiting/retaining standards during the time period in which Alan enlisted. Now, he didnt get a waiver for mental health reasons when he enlisted (because anyone who has ever enlisted knows, its easy to say no or check the no box for certain questions)....but when mental health concerns came to light after he enlisted he was not given a discharge because of the change of recruiting/retaining standards....to quote the article (remember this was published in 2007): 15 percent of active and reserve troops can now obtain waivers that allow them to serve despite having medical or mental health problems So if they were providing waivers for recruits with mental health concerns, of course they wouldnt discharge one for that very same reason. The title of the article sums it up in a nutshell...
