Support religious freedom from government intrusion folks! I mean, if a guy cant believe a drunken flying lump of pasta created the entire universe 4000 years ago, then what does religious liberty really mean? :D A Canadian adherent to the Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster has claimed in a YouTube video that his rights as a Pastafarian have been infringed by the state’s driving license authority, the ICBC, who refused him permission to wear a colander on his head for his license photo. Obi Canuel, an ordained minister with the Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster, took to You Tube earlier this month to speak out against this perceived slight on his religion. So, does this Pastafarian have a point? Can’t a man be free to wear a pasta-draining device on his head for his license photo without being made to feel like some sort of tagliatelle-loving freak? The ICBC’s website says customers “will not be asked to remove any headgear that does not interfere with facial recognition technology as long as it is worn in conjunction with religious practice.” “After trying to go through all the proper channels, I get nowhere” He told CTV: “The truth is sometimes I have the spiritual inkling to wear the colander and I don’t think ICBC should be making decisions about what kind of religious headgear is appropriate or not.” Established in 2005, The Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster exists to satirize creationism, and the literal interpretation of religious scripture. According to followers, the earth was created 4,000 years ago, by a drunken, giant, invisible spaghetti monster in the sky. The church has gone on to receive recognition in many countries, including most recently Poland in April of this year – and at least four countries, including the US, allow Pastafarians to wear colanders in their driver’s license photos.
