Sure, we can go on to speculate on why the library incident in Yap - TopicsExpress

Sure, we can go on to speculate on why the library incident in Yap took place... or we can look at how we responded to it. Im actually impressed with the amount of transparency and quick coverage for these incidents and happenings nowadays. Before when a teacher was raped and murdered, the whole island was lost in the dark, leaving facts turned into rumors and truth turned into lies. But now, its so detailed that you can understand that a piece of Sears hat was chopped off. Why is it so detailed now? Is it just because the incident took place at a public library? Or was it because a foreigner was put in harms way? Why is it that when violence, rape, assault, theft, suicide and all that happens on Yap but you get no media coverage whatsoever? Of course, I feel for the army recruiter, but why do we value foreigners more than our own people? Not just in the rape incident or this library incident but in everything? Jobs, etc, but thats far from the original topic. Thing is, I appreciate this kind of media coverage, especially with the monthly Attorney Generals convictions listings but if we could do this same kind of coverage for all cases, severe or minor, I think wed actually make some progress to being more connected as a people by being more informed. Cause crime has been and always will continue to happen, whether the people of Yap want to believe it or not as the islands modernize no matter how hard you try to prevent it. Its all about how you respond that matters.
