Surgery Update: (from Robert) Just met with Dr. Kumer. He said the surgery went well; the tumor was resectable (removable), and didnt appear to have spread. He said the biggest immediate concern is the possible development of a leak, and that they had put a drain in just in case. Next Step: Theyll move her to post-op recovery; she should be lucid in about 2-3 hours. Dr. Kumer wasnt sure about how long shed be in the hospital (he didnt have a crystal ball handy), but didnt rule out the possibility that it could be two weeks. In the next 7-10 days (approximately) we should get the test results back as to whether the cancer has spread to her lymph nodes - which is the case almost 90%of the time with pancreatic cancer - which is why she will almost certainly begin treatment with chemotherapy. We wont know for sure until the test results are in, but again, based on the odds, it seems to be the likely next step in her treatment. Thank you, everyone, for your comments and texts and emails and likes, shes been very moved by them, as have we. Stay tuned, well keep you posted.
