Survey research is much feasible research to collect information - TopicsExpress

Survey research is much feasible research to collect information from a large number of samples on snapshots of conditions, attitudes , events at a single point of time especially in most areas of social inquiry with wide and inclusive coverage. Cohen and Manioins (1985) argue that survey research may vary in scope from large scale government investigations through to small scale studies carried out by a single researcher in the form of the most commonly used descriptive method in the field of education. This research is mainly based on questionnaires ( general , mailed , or both), interviews and documents without any sort of manipulation of the variables (ie social and psychological). The relevant steps to be followed in survey research are defining the objectives, identification of the target population, review of literature, determination of sample, identification of survey instruments, designing survey procedures, identification of analytical procedures and determining reporting procedures (Nunan,1992). In spite of accumulation of large amount of wide and inclusive data, close rapport between the researcher and the respondents, it is not free from weaknesses such as lack of flexibility, difficulty in the interpretation and analysis of huge mountain data , the possibility of inconveniences arose as large scale research and so on.
