Survey returns show need for pedestrian, bicyclist access December 9, 2014 By MARK MARONEY (mmaroney@sungazette) Greg Famiglio, a physician in Williamsport, spends a lot of time in State College. That is partly because of the boroughs vibrancy, its college town atmosphere and what is provides for those walking on the sidewalks and pedaling its pathways. When Famiglio told those gathered for a first public involvement meeting for the Old City/East Third Street Gateway Project inside the James V. Brown Library Monday night that section of Williamsport isnt easy to walk, those listening to the feedback took notice. I like to walk, Famiglio said, adding how the city would be less dead if there were improvements made to its sidewalks, more illumination from streetlights and destinations to walk to such as a farmers market. He is not alone. About 60 percent, or 900 of the 1,500 responding to an online marketing survey, wanted to see improvements for pedestrians and bicyclists, indicating a community that seeks to be active and connected to each other, according to Tom Flynn, a spokesman for Thomas Point Associates of Annapolis, Maryland.
