Suzanne Maxine Uzoff OMG, FOR ANYONE WITH DOGS BE AWARE!!! its that time of year again when Sago Palms (females) that are 12+ yrs old can go to seed. This entire plant can be toxic and FATAL to dogs and children if ingested (cyanide), Especially the seeds and root, THEY ARE SWEET!!! The nurseries that sell these plants have NO WARNINGs attached. Last night I discovered 3 of the 4 remaining plants in my back yard have gone to seed so I have spent all morning cutting out and removing every single one of the seed pods and cut down 2 of the palms. Every piece that I dropped when cutting into the trunk has to be picked up so the dogs dont eat a single bit of it. 4 yrs ago one of my dogs Chanel, ate a seed, I saw her throw it up within 30 minutes of eating it(I had just realized the day before what the orange seeds in the yard were, that they were poison), and rushed her to the emergency room where she spent 3 days on IVs and blood plasma to stop her liver from dying. The bill was $3,500 but she lived. 80% of dogs treated will die,if not treated they die for sure. Be aware, this is one of the most toxic plants around, and very popular. If you dont see your dog throwing up you may not know what it ate to make it sick. Be forwarned if you have these plants in your yard, Pls share this msg. if you live in the southern half of the U.S. !!!!
