And at 16, as the youngest skier in the field, Mac Marcoux was battling a big case of nerves. But visually impaired teenager from Sault Ste. Marie, Ont., laid down a solid run in this Paralympic debut on Saturday to claim a bronze medal in the downhill. “I’m so excited, so stoked right now, I can’t explain it,” said Marcoux, who had Robin Femy of Mont-Tremblant, Que., as his guide. “It’s insane. Marcoux said it was a bittersweet moment given that his brother wasn’t on the headset, skiing in front of him. But he said as soon as he crossed the finish line he heard 19-year-old B.J., who was only ruled out of the Games two weeks ago, screaming and whistling. “He was whistling like nobody’s business. It was awesome.” Mac Marcouxs brother a huge part of the journey Marcoux, who has no central vision and just six-per-cent peripheral vision as a result of Stargaardt’s Disease, finished in one minute, 23.02 seconds, one second behind silver medalist Miroslav Haraus of Slovakia and 1.26 seconds behind gold medalist Jon Santacana of Spain.
