Swinhoes Pheasant This kind of bird is endemic animal to Taiwan and also is sub family of Phasianidae. They mostly live in Nantou which is central of Taiwan in forest. They eat seeds, plants, fruits and insects. The mother of Swinhoe mostly lay 2 to 6 eggs and incubated from 25 to 35 days, then when the baby bird are born they stay in the nest for 3 days and the baby will leave home after all. Swinhoes Pheasant were been discovered by a British naturalist Robert Swinhoe and first described the species in 1862s. The bird was being iintroduce to western world in 1860s and is the important discover for natural history study in 19 century.The birlds population are decreasing and which is set in protection status because of the habitat degradation and have shrink the range of Swinhoes living area. There have two causes that dangerous Swinhoes population is in early era, a lot of Hans people immigrant and moving to Taiwan and some of them had damage their living property and another causes is that over hunting, in the old time a lot of aboriginal hunt the bird for making some head or hat decoration to outside people in 50 to 60 century that they will sell to the customer that came from other country to tour Taiwan after the some area was open by the gorvernment. Their action are mostly quiet and slow which they dont want to make sound and hide themself in some place when they are out to find food, they make sound only when they saw something that make them excited. Swinhoe are in dark blue colour and the feather have some black color on it with the white nape, tail, crest and red wattles. In 1860s, Robert Swinhoe was the first European consular representive to the island of Taiwan. In 1863s, he found the dark blue feather of Swinhoes Pheasant and take it back to investigate. He notice that this might be a new discovery of the new species, so he first name the species (Wa koe). From starting that time, a lot of hunter are trying to find the new kind of bird, but most Swinhoe stuck in the deep forest, so they didnt find the bird after all. In December, they finally catch a Swinhoe, then Robert Swinhoe took the pheasant back to London and from passing the station of Hong Kong and India. Later on, he send the information of Swinhoes Pheasants living habit such as under the captivity of multiplication and the feathers to IBS. In 1862s, Robert Swinhoe start to get back to London for recuperate, he have pass the document about the important information that he had collected from Taiwan to the bird artist John Gould. In the document there have 16 kind of bird being discoverd and Swinhoes Pheasant are one of them. Because of John Gould want to memorize the contirbution of Robert Swinhoe, so he name the pheasant to Swinhoes Pheasant instead of Wa Koe. After that Robert Swinhoe had start to renowned and become famous in world bird study investigation.
