Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC), held a Regional Stakeholder Workshop on “Scoping Study on Enhancing the Contribution of Labour Migration in the Mekong Region to Poverty Reduction”, on 30th October 2014 at Mercure Hotel, Vientiane, Lao PDR. Ms. Phornphan Srikhatthanaprom was invited by SDC to facilitate and moderate the discussions. There were around 40 representatives from government sector, international organization, inter-governmental organization (MI), recruitment agencies, and mass organization attending the workshop. The main objectives of this workshop were: 1) to deliberate on the preliminary findings of the Scoping Study report on “Enhancing contribution of labor migration in Mekong region to poverty reduction” 2) to discuss and shape intervention options and potential SDC partners on migration with stakeholders, and 3) to seek primary feedback, comments, and recommendations from key stakeholders and decision makers. This opportunity provided good chance for Mekong Institute to present its position on migration issues as well as getting update information on Mekong migration situation from the experts. It also opened possibility for MI to be one of the potential partners considered for intervention options for SDC’s long-term migration program in Mekong countries (Cambodia, Lao PDR, Myanmar, Thailand, and possibly Vietnam).
