Syed Qaim Ali Shah invites Chinese participation in Bus Rapid transport system in #Karachi - #PPP #Pakistan BEIJING, Oct 26 (APP): Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah has invited Chinese companies for their participation in setting up modern Bus Rapid transport system in Karachi. He was talking to the Chairman of China Machinery Engineering Corporation(CMEC), Sun Bai at a breakfast meeting and while addressing the Chinese power, mining and infrastructure development companies, banks, Chinese and Pakistani Financial Institutions here Friday on the second leg of his visit to China. For growing population of Karachi, laying a modern road network in city is need of the hour, he informed the participants. To mitigate the transport problem of Karachiites, he said that government has already put 200 busses in its existing fleet. To provide further facilities to the commuters, Qaim Ali Shah said that government plans to introduce modern Bus Rapid transport system in six different routes in the provincial capital. In this regard, he said that feasibility study has already been completed. To begin with implementation of this mega project, he said tender in next couple of weeks for one of the six routes on which government plans to introduce the system will be invited. The cost of the first lane, he said is estimated between Rs. 10 to 12 billion. Secretary Finance Sindh Sohail Rajput said that the first Bus Rapid route will stretch from Korangi Industrial area to Sadar and will cover a distance of around 27 kilometers. To ensure smooth running, on some parts of the route, these buses will ply on elevators, he noted. Syed Qaim Ali Shah invited Chairman of CMEC, Sun Bai and his team who took keen interest to visit Sindh and examine the possibility of their participation in this as well as on Thar coal and alternative energy projects of the Sindh Government. The Chief Minister said that CMEC can participate in the Bus Rapid project individually or through Joint Venture. Participating in the discussions, Syed Murad Ali Shah, Advisor to Chief Minister with status of Provincial Minister pointed out that there would be no financial problem in implementation of the project as Sindh government has its own bank. The bank was contributing immensely in economic activities and has established two hundred branches in short span of two years. The meeting was also informed the plan for the development of port at KT Bunder that can help facilitate transportation of coal from Thar. Qaim Ali Shah arrived Beijing from Chengdu, the Capital City of Sichuan province where he attend the 14th Western China International Fair opened Wednesday. He also met provincial Governor and other senior leaders and discussed mutual cooperation between the two countries in various areas of economy. The 14th Western China International Fair in Chengdu has long served as an important platform in the western region for investment promotion, trade cooperation and diplomatic service. This is the biggest portal for the opening-up of Western China. Exhibitors from 72 countries, and over 4,000 Chinese companies attended the fair. The fair greatly serve setting up business links of foreign traders with Chinese companies.
