•Sylhet Stadium will host 3rd ODI during home series vs NZ• The BCB grounds and facilities department manager Syed Abdul Baten, said he is very much confident of finishing all the infrastructural task for two under- construction stadiums in Cox’s Bazar and Sylhet by September this year. Moreover, it was also said that Bangladesh Cricket Board have also a plan to hold the 3rd ODI of the home series over New Zealand in October in Sylhet. New Zealand are expected to tour Bangladesh for the three ODIs and two tests in the last quarter of the year, but no official schedule has been announced yet. It is said that BCB are planning to hold the final ODI against New Zealand in Sylhet, which will be renovated by then, as a dress rehearsal for the ICC T20 World Cup 2014 next year. According to the informer, the 1st Test between Bangladesh and New Zealand will be held in Chittagong before the teams shift to Dhaka for another Test match and the first two ODIs. However, if Sylhet Stadium is not available for any reason BCB might consider Khan Shaheb Osman Ali stadium in Fatullah for the 3rd ODI match. ICC’s inspection team have visited last month and showed their dissatisfaction with the construction work at Sylhet and Cox’s Bazaar, two venues of the four venues were scheduled to host matches during the men’s and women’s T20 World Cup 2014. It was an aware for the Bangladesh Cricket Board then and now the recent statement from BCCI interim chief Jagmohan Dalmiya, who already proposed to host some matches of T20 World Cup if Bangladesh failed to hold, stirred the discussion. Previously Bangladesh have arranged two mega ICC events – Mini Cricket World Cup (currently It is known as ICC Champions Trophy) in 1998 and the ICC Cricket World Cup 2011, where Bangladesh was one of the three co-hosts. This will be for the first time , Bangladesh will be arranging a big ICC event entirely and the slow activities rate of the venues remains a big concern. However, ground manager of BCB is very hopeful of completing all the task on time. ‘The work is continuing very fast and the construction of the second floor of the five storied stand at the Sylhet Divisional Cricket Stadium will be completed very soon,’ said by Baten. He also informed that BCB is very much confident of completing the infrastructural activities by September. Before, the BCB president Nazmul Hassan Papon said if the Cox’s Bazar and Sylhet venues are not prepare in time, BCB have two alternate venues in mind in Fatullah and BKSP. The BCB are determined to host the mega event T20 World Cup, but still it will be depend ed on ICC’s inspection team next visit in August. Meanwhile, Abul Mal Abdul Muhit, finance minister of Bangladesh will launch the infrastructural work of Sylhet cricket Stadium tomorrow though the work has been started much earlier. It is said that a total amount of 8.3 billion taka will be spent for the Stadium.
