TARYN UPDATE We just met with a pediatric neurologist in - TopicsExpress

TARYN UPDATE We just met with a pediatric neurologist in Sacramento and received some reassuring news. There is a 70% chance that she will never have another seizure. If she does, medication is effective and is usually not lifelong. We’ll do another EEG in a few weeks. This one will be taken when Taryn is sleep deprived. Then we’ll meet with the neurologist again. Hopefully there will be nothing to report. Taryn won’t be able to drive for six months but if there are no more seizures she will get her license back then. If you’re one of the lucky people who gets to hang out with Taryn, please help us watch for the symptoms. If she is acting spacey, lethargic, and not quite “all there” please don’t ignore it. (Insert joke here.) This is how she acted prior to her seizure. Let us know! In the process of all the testing it was discovered that Taryn has Chiari malformation. Chiari malformation is pressure around the base of the brain, due (according to Taryn) to the fact that her brain is so big. We found out two important things about Chiari: 1) It is absolutely unrelated to seizures. 2) It is normally not a big deal and only needs to be treated if there are symptoms (which there are not). The bottom line: It’s back to normal. We will wait and watch and pray and hope it never happens again. Thanks so much to her (and our) amazing friends and to Jonathan and Lisa Fox for all the support. We really felt the love.
