TAXPAYERS MONEY? Some Nigerians use the contemporary phrase tax - TopicsExpress

TAXPAYERS MONEY? Some Nigerians use the contemporary phrase tax payers money to reference public funds. Those who do this are either ignorant or completely drowned with in Western reportage. Nigerias tax to Gross Domestic Product (GDP) ratio of 7 per cent of GDP is grossly inadequate and shameful. Countries like the UK, USA, and even Botswana all have ratios above 25%, a smart indicator of tax driven economies. Next time you hear a Nigerian say a thing like wasting taxpayers money call him/her to order, and remind them the public money being spent is Niger Delta money. When situated in the current political context, we can express conveniently how Niger Delta money is being wasted on a National Conference, like the cynics think. But this has always been the contribution of a minority Region that has sustained and continues to sustain the unity of Nigeria, simply by keeping it viable and alive. As the Region continues to sacrifice for the nation, it has only asked the behemoth state for one thing - True Federalism.
