TBT. My parents second apartment was at Schroedel Apartments. The 224 rental units are one block north of Hampton Rd. and one block west of Santa Monica Blvd. The townhouses were built in the mid-1950s by Francis Schroedel, who sued the village to build the complex. In the 1930s he founded the Schroedel Construction Co. in Milwaukee. Some residents were concerned the complex would cause over-crowding in schools. The case ultimately wound up in the state Supreme Court which ruled Schroedel could build on the property because it was zoned for apartments. After WWII, he built apartment complexes in Whitefish Bay and Shorewood. So many postwar baby boom children were born in those developments that they became known as Schroedels Cradles. These pics are of me, my brother, Mike, and our baby sister, Gini with my mom. Notice the milk shoot and milk bottles!
