TECHNOLOGY ROCKS...and isolates. Kicking off the day with a 3-hour session for an amusement park series of commercials, hitting a hospital in Idaho before wrapping up the day at a casino all without leaving the tiny little windowless box I call a studio thanks to an archaic, but vital-to-me technology called ISDN. That same technology thankfully kept me out of the traffic chaos of Atlantas Snowpocalypse earlier this week. Yet, when I hear stories of pre-home studio era voiceover talents talk about spending their days hanging out together in the kitchens of the big Atlanta audio production companies, and when I drive home still buzzing on the high of the energy created during an in-person session, I wonder if technology has also taken something away from our industry in spite of all it has given us. Living in Athens, more than an hour outside of Atlanta, let me just go on record saying that the benefits of ISDN are invaluable to my business (and my family for that matter), but a big part of me will be wishing I was hanging out in the very cool reception area with the very cool folks at Acoustech Music Productions, Inc. this morning.
