TEXTY BREAD Dec.30,2014 St Liberius Luke 2:36-40 Anna the Prophetees ...There was a prophetess, Anna, the daughter of Phanuel, of tribe of Asher. She was advance in years, having lived seven years with her husband after her marriage, and then as a widow until she was eighty-four. She never left the temple, but worship night and day with fasting and prayer. And coming forward at that very time, she gave thanks to God and spoke about the child to all who were awaiting the redemption of Jerusalem. ... When Joseph and Mary had fulfilled all the perceptions of the law of the Lord, they returned to Galilee, to their own town of Nazareth. The child grow and become strong, filled with wisdom,and the favor of God was upon him... AMEN! ...Physical, intellectual, and spiritual growth. ...Luke presents the righteous and devout Simeon as one who awaits the consolation of Israel (Luke 2:25). ... The prophetic words of Simeon are added in the inspired words of the old widow Anna. She is not so silent as the first seems to appear. The Spirit opens her mind and her mouth so that she can too recognize Jesus and speak about him. ...Simeon and Anna, two pious people, number among the anawim, the poor who look up to God and rely totally on Him for salvation. They now bear witness to Jesus to their fellow anawim, those who are awaiting the redemption of Jerusalem (v 38). If, originally these people are the pious Jews who long for the Messiah. Luke also has in mind the Christians who share the anawim piety, who devote themselves to the teaching of the apostles and to the communal life, to the breaking of the bread and to the prayers (Acts 2:42). ...The Christians fully know Jesus is after his resurrection; they now work for the spread of the kingdom and await the final manifestation of Jesus. REFLECTION: ...Widowhood or old age not be burden. Do you know persons like Anna who are still active and enjoy the esteem of the community? Did Anna us like the Old Testament heroines Judith and Jael? PRAYER: ...Lord, may we never cease to hope in you and to trust in your promises. Inflame our zeal for your kingdom and increase our love for prayer, that we may never cease to give you praise and worship..AMEN..
