TGIF!!!!! Ive been due this one for what seems like two weeks now. Only because Ive worked about two weeks worth in one. So what to do? Tonight the boys of BIG DADDY LOVE are bringing their high octane appalachian rock and mountain soul to Fat Frogg Bar and Grill in Elon, which is right near Burlington. You can never go wrong seeing this band, the live show they put on draws in an audience like few others youve ever seen. Ive been to this venue before and its a pretty cool place. With BDL on the stage the cool factor goes through the roof. However, as this is a Triad oriented page, the pick of the night has to go to something a bit closer in. The incredibly popular band The Wood Brothers is appearing at The Blind Tiger in Greensboro. This trio is off-the-charts lately, smoking venues all over the nation. They are the essence of simplicity - Oliver and Chris Wood on guitar and bass, and Jano Rix on the drums and the shuitar. The brothers handle the vocals and do so quite well, entwining their voices in rich harmonies on their folk rock and bluesy roots songs. The songwriting is also good, reflecting their musical childhoods and family background. There is at least a good possibility this show will sell out, so dont delay. Down in Lexington theres always good roots music at High Rock Outfitters, and tonight they have the fabulous americana band The Overmountain Men. Ive seen them a few times as well as having seen their frontman David Childers do his thing solo. He is a master songwriter and the band is chock full of talent. They play americana and folk music. The ballads are rich and reflective, and the bluesy folk numbers will have everyone tapping their feet. Good stuff. Up in the beautiful hills of Stokes county on the banks of the Dan river you can catch Porch Dog Revival with their unique folk rock and americana sound at The Green Heron Club. And over in Salisbury, theres a show at Uncle Bucks All American Pub & Grub featuring two darn good bands - Big Break and The Nectar Unit. Ok, Im maxed out on links, so the Winston shows will get their own post........
