THANK YOU SOUTH CAROLINA Hands Across the Sand to hold SC drilling protest Posted: May 17, 2014 2:02 AM MDT Updated: May 17, 2014 2:02 AM MDT FOLLY BEACH, S.C. (AP) - People opposed to gas and oil drilling off the South Carolina coast are literally joining hands to illustrate their stance. Hands Across the Sand events, where people form lines holding hands, are being held Saturday in four South Carolina communities. The state events are among dozens those being held in other towns across the nation and in 43 foreign countries. The events are being held to promote the development of renewable energy sources. Organizers say development of drilling off the South Carolina coast could threaten the states $18 billion tourism industry, its fishing industry and the states natural beauty. Hands Across the Sand events are being held at Folly Beach and in Myrtle Beach on Saturday as well as in Columbia and Greenville.
