THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU! ***************************** From Kellie Sumberac - President : Dear Parents, Thanks to your amazing support, we have had a fantastic start to the year. Our “year” actually started out last June with our New Parents’ Meet and Greet! Many thanks to Lisa Hyland, Tracy Kirley & Janine DeMilt for chairing a great reception for our new families and incoming kindergarten parents. Thank you to all of our veteran parents who helped answer questions and ease the minds of our new families. On Friday, September 5th, we started the school year with the New Mothers’ Mass followed by a reception in the Parish Center. Our chairladies, Jana Alflen and Jenifer Lynch, outdid themselves by organizing a beautiful mass and cozy reception afterward. It’s always nice to begin the school year with a blessing! Michele Palmer & Nancy O’Brien graciously organized our General Meeting held on September 24th. It was a relaxing evening where many current members chatted with our new members, and everyone took advantage of the sign-up tables to volunteer for this year‘s events. We were so lucky to have Fran Bingham speak to us about becoming Eucharistic Ministers. Her enthusiasm for service was contagious! Paid members will be receiving a copy of the 2014/2015 Mothers’ Club Directory in a couple of weeks. Mary Burke & Trish Rising coordinated this year’s membership drive and put the directory together. This is a MONUMENTAL undertaking, and I thank Mary, Trish and their team of editors, Cathy Garcia, Monica Mahar, Debbie McManus, and Karen Wiedenhoft for taking it on. If you forgot to renew & missed the deadline to be included in the directory, you can still renew your membership…you will get a copy of this year’s directory and continue to be on our email distribution list. Our Class Mother coordinators, Tracy Kirley & Kathy Boyle, have organized the grade and class coordinators, and very soon, you will receive information about how you can contribute to the collection for the teachers. As you may remember, we do one collection that will cover both Christmas and end-of-the-year gifts for our teachers and staff. Thank you, Tracy & Kathy! With an organization as large as ours, the job of Volunteer Coordinator is a demanding one. Thank you to Kathy Fisk for collecting all of the forms and making sure they all go to the correct event chairs. If you haven’t filled out a volunteer form yet, it’s not too late! You can find it on the Mothers’ Club page under the “Parent Organizations” tab on the school website. On October 30th, we celebrated Halloween with a party and parade for our K-2nd grade students. Thank you to Erin Fortunato, Kristen Jones, Katie O’Donnell & Colleen Whaley for organizing a fun-filled day for our little ones. The kids had a great time, looked adorable, and were thrilled by the magic show & craft. Coming up next week, we hope to see many of our members at the Autumn Auction on November 20th for some pre-Thanksgiving relaxation. Maybe you’ll win a fabulous prize or a week on Sanibel Island! When we return from our Thanksgiving break, December will be here. Breakfast with Santa for our K & 1st grade students will be held on Saturday, December 13th. Susan Gatti, Jillian Hughes & Debbie Morvillo have wonderful plans for Santa’s visit. Watch for the reservation flyer. Mark your calendars for our annual Mothers’ Club Christmas Party. It will be held Tuesday, December 16th at Monaghan’s. There is no charge for our members. This is a casual evening that begins at 8pm. Stop in for a quick drink or stay for the evening. We will gladly accept gifts cards for local grocery stores, which we will forward on to the Parish Outreach. Thanks to Suzanne Sullivan & Kathy Tighe for organizing some holiday cheer for our members! Our Rectory Liaisons, Cristin Ryan and Anne Marie Price, will be looking for volunteers to help deliver Christmas flowers to the homebound in the St. Agnes parish – a lovely way to give back during the holiday season. We have many exciting events coming up in the months ahead. Please be sure to check the Mothers’ Club page and Tuesday Packets on the school website for information on any upcoming events. We are also on Facebook. All of the money we raise helps to enrich our children’s experience at our wonderful school. I feel so blessed to be surrounded by so many talented, generous women and their families. I wish you all a wonderful Thanksgiving and a joyful Christmas! Warmest Regards, Kellie Sumberac President ******************************* From Leah Alduino – Vice President: Dear Parents, You couldn’t have ordered a more perfect day for our annual Garden Potpourri. Hundreds of people came to the lovely home of Larry and Colleen Guidarelli to enjoy this favorite fall day – thank you Colleen and Larry for your gracious hospitality. As you can imagine, it takes a lot of coordination, talent, and time to put the Potpourri together. Many thanks to our chair-ladies Rory Murphy, Tanya Prince and Mary Hope Friedermann, who with their incredibly talented committee, put together a memorable fall festival that all enjoyed. Those who made crafts, baked, made jams and apple sauce, painted pumpkins, organized flower orders, made Christmas decorations, painted lawn signs, coordinated the raffles, organized vendors, ran the cafe, helped set up, volunteered at the event and/or shopped – thank you. It’s because of your hard work that the event was so successful! We have the spirit yes we do, we have the spirit how ‘bout you? Don’t you just love this year’s new items? If you haven’t yet placed your orders – be sure to do so soon before we run out! The Doll Clothes make a great Christmas gift! Thank you Daria Borsellino and Christina Farrell for doing such a great job coordinating our school spirit wear! It’s hard to believe it, but Thanksgiving will be here before we know it and, thanks to the Dessert Sale chairladies, Clare Doster and Jennifer Lawless, many of us have a jump start on our holiday baking! The orders have been placed, and the pick-up date is Thursday, November 20th between 12:30 and 3 pm. On Wednesday, October 29th we again had the Whalecomeback sale at Vineyard Vines. Sales totaled approximately $5000, and we will be getting 10% back. Thanks to everyone who came out and shopped! Tuesday, November 4th, was the always popular Lord & Taylor shopping day. Many thanks to Meghan Bagatta and Louise Perna for coordinating this event and a very big thank you to all those who bought the coupons – 140 tickets were sold! Hopefully everyone was able to take advantage of the savings and get some shopping done! Our 1st Family Fun Night, oh what a blast! Our chairladies Maryellen McCabe and Bridget Kelly really made sure the whole family was entertained! This was a St. Agnes first and definitely a keeper if you ask all those who came. Gaga, DJ, Carnival Games, a Photo Booth who could ask for more? A special thanks to Lisa McAllister for all the fabulous Nike goodies. Thank you to all those who helped work the event and of course to everyone who came and made it such a success. Reservations are now being accepted for the Autumn Auction that will be held on Thursday, November 20thth at Hempstead Golf and Country Club from 7-11pm. Reservation forms can be found on the school website. This event’s success relies on the generosity of the Mothers’ Club membership. We will not be having a Spring Luncheon this year, so this is essentially it for baskets! Please consider making a donation. They can be dropped off to Jacqui Agresta at 21 Reeve Road or Maureen Willox at 40 Roxbury Road both RVC. Monetary donations may be sent through school, Jacqui Agresta c/o Scarlett 5-4. This is always a very fun night for all us ladies! We are again having, “Shop for Our School” at Atlantic Nursery in Freeport. It’s so easy, just go to Atlantic Nursery from November 28th through December 7th, shop for your tree, gift cards, ornaments, poinsettias, holiday home décor, gifts for friends and family, then identify yourself as a St. Agnes shopper at the checkout and 10% of your purchases will be donated back to St. Agnes Cathedral School. It’s a great way to get a jump on your Christmas shopping and decorating while raising money for the school at the same time! For more information, please see the flyer on the school website. From the bottom of my heart thank you all for your wonderful support of Mothers’ Club and our events. We are truly off to a very profitable & successful year! I hope you and your families all have a wonderful Thanksgiving! Sincerely, Leah Alduino Vice President
