THANK YOU to whoever posted the large page photo for this group. My gr-gr-grandfather William Shelton was killed with and is buried there on Cold Mtn. with the other Sheltons and Millard Haire. Our side of the Shelton Laurel, NC bunch moved to Arkansas around 1910, then on to California during the depression. Hence, living in California has forced me to be an armchair Shelton genealogist for the past 30+ years and nagging my distant cousins for solid, sourced information. I am really enjoying the posts on this site and trying to make connections! I have one request. When you post old photos, please give a little family genealogy with them so I may better place them in my mind where they fit into my extended Shelton tree. William Shelton was b. ca. 1834 and was married to Mary Ann Metcalf. Williams parents were Isaac Shelton b. ca. 1812 and Rachel Torres (Rachel being my only PROBABLE claim to Spanish blood). Isaac Shelton was the son of David Shelton b. ca. 1776 and Catherine Miller. I descend down from William Shelton and Mary Ann Metcalfs daughter. That daughters full birth name is illusive and has been pieced together over the years from a variety of sources.... Laura Jane Uphame Famey Shelton. Famey Shelton married Enoch Shelton (3rd cousins). Enoch and Famey are my great grandparents.
