THANKS TO PETER FRANCHOT, COMPTROLLER OF MARYLAND. HERE IS WHAT HE WRITES ABOUT OMALLEYS CORRUPT DEAL: To be candid, this is the worst deal that has come across my desk in my eight years as your Comptroller. Had I not successfully fought against this proposal at the Board of Public Works, the State of Maryland would have purchased a private farm in Kent County for $2.8 million, then leased it for $1 per year to a wealthy Democratic Party donor so that she could grow organic fruits, vegetables and livestock. Then, as if that wasnt enough, the State would have spent another $500,000 of taxpayer money to buy her a food distribution facility so that she could process, package and transport the food to retailers. This, at a time when the state is facing a massive budget deficit, the Maryland economy is still weak, and too many taxpayers are still losing savings, jobs and homes. This is the sort of thing that has caused far too many people to lose trust and confidence in their government, and I will fight to ensure that this taxpayer-funded giveaway never resurfaces.
