THE ARTICLE OF FAITH FROM CHRISTIAN PERSPECTIVE All the main Christian churches or sect teaches the following as the principal dogmas or article of faith: i. There is one God ii. In God there are three divine persons, the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit (Trinity). They are equal and they are eternal they are not three gods but one God. iii. Every human child bears with him the stain of what is called the original sin. The focus of this discussion is on examining the sacred doctrine of the churches in the light of writing of the Bible which churches accept as Canonical that is the authoritative word of God. Let me begin with the last doctrine (original Sin). We learnt from the Old Testament the origin of Original Sin. Specifically, in the Book of Genesis 2: 15- 16 and Genesis 3:16- 19 On account of their sin (Adam and Eve) the churches teaches, Adam and Eve lost sanctifying grace and thereby become subject to death and suffering and subsequently driven away from the garden of paradise. On account of Adam’s sin all human being are born deprived of sanctifying grace and inherit his punishment. This is what is called the Original Sin. St Paul’s theology developed the doctrine of Original Sin to justify another doctrine, Redemption by death of Jesus on the cross. St Paul wrote letters to Romans and Corinthians. Roman 5:12-15 and 1Corinthians 15:22 refers. It was observed that the Pauline doctrine of Original Sin runs contrary to the other passages from the Bible. In the Old Testament Deuteronomy 24:16; Jeremiah 31:29-30 and Ezekiel 18:19-20 and in the New Testament see Mathew 18:3 where Jesus was reported to have said “Truly, I say to you, unless you became like children you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.” Also John 9:1-3 refers But the churches inclined to disregard the categorical evidence of the Old and New Testaments and rely on the letters of the St Paul which for no earthly reason were appended and incorporated in the Bible. St Paul was not one of the disciples chosen by Jesus in his life time. St Paul was known to be fanatical in hatred for Christian and engaged himself in hounding out Christians and bringing them to be tortured and killed. In Islam the notion of original sin is regarded as inconsistent with the justice of Allah. How could a just and loving God make an innocent child responsible for, or at least bear the guilt for the sins of a distant ancestor? (Steve A. Johnson) No heathen tribe has conceived so grotesque an idea, involving as it does the assumption, that man was born with a hereditary stain upon him, and this stain for which he was not personally responsible was to be atoned for, and that the creator of all things had to sacrifice His only begotten son to neutralize this mysterious curse. (Major Yeats Brown) That Jesus (pbuh) himself regarded children as innocent and pure, and NOT BORN IN SIN, is clear from his reported saying: Suffer the little children to come unto me, and forbid them not, for such is the kingdom of God . . . Mark 10:14 May Allah help us.
