THE ATTRACTION OF BURNS. I am a contrarian vintage guitar - TopicsExpress

THE ATTRACTION OF BURNS. I am a contrarian vintage guitar collector. In starting my collection, I spent a great deal of time looking at guitar photo books, catalogs (thanks vintaxe), and magazines. And, of course, I looked at “stars guitars”. Being more visually stimulated I was attracted to those guitars that I considered to be “stylish”, “unique”, and even “esoteric”. Then I focused on those “stylish” guitars that were truly well crafted and built. And along with that came the “sound” capability of the guitar. Those delimiters coalesced in my “personality profile” for different guitar builders. Jim Burns was of immediate consequence of my “profiling”. Seeing a photo of Jim’s iconic BLACK BISON 4 Pick Up was totally antithetical to all other guitars in its appearance and personality. And his creative genius extended to other models in career. Jim Burns made guitars from his imagination. And they were, are, unique. That’s why I simply cannot embrace the “new style” Burns guitars that look like the standard fare of the guitar marketplace, e.g. “strat” and “tele” copies. Jim Burns would never waste a creative thought on “copying” the bland. Here’s another example of Jim’s “creative personality”: the LJ24.
