THE CHRISTIAN DILEMMA This really is simple. If you think God is the essence of love or the absolute moral authority then you know he cannot have permitted slavery. There is nothing moral or loving about allowing one human to own, trade and beat to death other human beings (all of which God explicitly sanctioned in the Bible). This leaves you with a dilemma. Either the Hebrews invented God and endowed him with their own moral code to give it legitimacy or God exists but he has the obnoxious morals of an iron-age patriarch. Which is it? PS Actually, this is not just a Christian dilemma. If this logic damns Christianity, it damns Judaism and Islam too, for they all share the same God.
