THE CHURCH IN NEED OF ANOTHER MARTIN LUTHER On 31st October 1517, the eve of all Saints days, Martin Luther posted his ninety –five theses against the clerical abuses of the Roman Catholic Church. In the theses Martin Luther said that the pope is an anti-Christ. He objected the deceitful sales of indulgences. It was said that indulgence money dropped into a little box helps the soul of a love one in purgatory to move to heaven. Today about 496 years after the posting of the nine- five theses with the steady rise of “prophets” at every corner of the street in Africa the church has fallen back to the pre- martin Luther’s days. Today in many corners it is no longer Faith alone. It is Faith plus whatever the false prophet chooses. The title of the prophet today is what rocks the church in Africa. If you are not a prophet, you are not called by God. They hate clerical shirts, but their pulpits are nothing but expensive fashion wears and jewels display. “You have been tied, someone in your family does not want you to prosper, your mother in law, sister in law is a witch, your ancestors worshiped idols.” these are common words of the false prophets, these are statements I used to hear from the witch doctors in my village. It seems those witch doctors are all now behind the micro phones as self proclaimed prophets. Africans who want to know what the future holds for them and who is behind their problems today do not want to go to witch doctors any more, they go to the “powerful prophets.” One of the best jobs of these prophets is to cause division in families with their unfounded satanic declarations. “Your this and that is the cause of your problems.” A prophet told a man that his wife is bearing only girls because his step mother has tied the wife’s womb never to bear for him a boy. Women have chased out the children of their husband’s late wife from home because the prophet said they are witches. This does not promote faith, love and unity but hate and bitterness. The peddling of the Word of God by these false prophets is alarming. They pray for people for money and you must pay for their prophesies. They preach with the spirit of Elijah, and pray for another Elijah or for the double portion of Elijah’s spirit, but they are filled and saturated by spirit of Gehazi the servant of Elisha and the spirit of Balaam. These false prophets are good at making scripture as elastic as possible to mean whatever they want. I heard a prophet telling people to clap their hands and shout sanctify and God will sanctify them and bless them by solving all their problems. What I hear now is “holy salt” that can destroy all the powers of the devil. This salt is being sole to ignorant Christians. This is sad, very sad. Is it faith in Christ now that moves mountains or holy salt? Holy oil is also sole to people and they are asked to apply the oil on themselves when going out or at a particular time in the night. Holy water now is no longer the thing of a particular church as these false prophet cut and paste scriptures to fit what they want. To the so call prophets God has no right, no power to answer prayers the way he God wants which may be NO, WAIT, or YES. If the answer is not YES then the person did not pray well, has little faith, or did not fast enough. Someone told he was asked to you and fast and come back for prayers, each time he goes for prayers, the prophets just look at him and they say he did not fast enough go and fast again. May be offering a check to them will mean that he really fasted. The Prophets have the monopoly of the Holy Spirit just as the witch doctors have the monopoly of the divinities and the gods of the land and can remove a portion of him from their pockets and throw him to the people or blow him with their mouths to the people. Don’t you see that we need another Martin Luther? What goes on today is what St Paul calls “another gospel” that has nothing to do with the message of the cross. The difficult part of this issue is that these prophets which we can’t say are “Pentecostal “ because we do not know them in the Pentecost cycle have surrounded themselves with praise singers who are ready to fight who ever will try to list the wrongs of their prophets as Martin Luther did on 31st October 1517. If a man of God to you is he who performs lots of miracles, then do not forget that on the last day some will say we did this and that and the Son of man shall say to them I do not know you. Remember that the anti- Christ shall take over the world through miracle of all kinds. The Bible tells us to test every spirit. Take the Bible read it and study it, attend a Bible believing church and Bible classes. Live as the Bible teaches us to live. You do not really need a prophet in your life. You need Jesus as your savor, you need to confess your sins for whoever covers his sins will not prosper, and because of our sins God will not answer our prayers. You need the Holy Spirit in your life, be filled with the Holy Spirit. You must not speak in tongues but you must bear the fruits of the Holy Spirit for by their fruits you shall know them.
