*** THE DEADLY Ds *** ( Disappointment, Discouragement, Dejection, Despair, and Demoralization.) They represent another strategy of the enemy, a strategy with several layers. Together they form a downward spiral of deepening defeat and disorder. Theyre part of a devastating plunge thats triggered when we respond wrongly to disappointments. Disappointment comes when our expectations arent met. Consequently were not happy about it-were disturbed. When this happens and we dont conquer that disappointment in Gods way, then we spin downward into discouragement. Were without courage. We want to give up. We want to quit because were disheartened. Were ready to run rather than deal with the situation. And what follows discouragement? Depression in its various degrees. The first degree of depression is dejection-a lowness of spirit, a feeling of spiritual and emotional fatigue. If not reversed this dejection takes us down even further, plunging us into despair and finally into utter demoralization. At this stage of descent, hope is entirely abandoned and is replaced by apathy and numbness. Fear becomes overwhelming and paralyzing and can degenerate further disorder and reckless action that is heedless of consequences. When you pause to think about all this, cant you see that these are the tactics Satan is using to defeat so many of Gods children today? The question is, How well do you understand them? How quickly can you recognize them in your own life or in the lives of others around you?)
