THE DOORS OPENED ON 2 DOORS DOWN Two emotions carry actors into an opening night, nerves and anticipation. How will it play to an audience? What will they think? The anticipation is of the audience feedback. What worked, what didnt. You have been rehearsing into an empty space then at last you have an audience to complete the circle. Last night our first audience was fantastic. The cast and crew take this opportunity to thank you for giving us our first feedback. Your positive reactions are the grist for our creative mill. We will take what you gave us last night to build on during the run. The Murwillumbah Theatre Company has a convention that I had not seen before in other theatre groups I have worked with. At the end of the show the cast farewells and thanks the audience at the door. Its a great idea. Of the many comments we received from the lady who said she had come to see an amateur show but left after seeing professionals at work, touched us all. Its a difficult subject. In fact it is one of the saddest things a family can face. The audience came on the Rowe families emotional journey as we all hoped they would. The first audience brings out the best in a good cast. Last night was no exception. The set was always going to be a step into the unknown as well. Julie and Elizas minimalist concept with deliberated use of colour was designed to focus attention on the subject matter of the play. Audience comments endorsed their concept whole heartedly. After the last audience member left, the stage is dark, we all sat around talking. We had all been nervous wrecks before the show and no one had eaten. Col Elliot, bless him, made us all dinner. All our faces were shinning with that after show hype. Thanks to our first audience.
